When to Renew

You can renew online at your state DMV website if: your smog/emissions test is current (if required), no outstanding violations, and payment method is available. California, Texas, Florida, New York all offer online renewal.
Smog Check States

- Must be completed BEFORE you can renew registration
- Cost: $30–$90 at certified smog check stations
Late Registration Fees
- California: $15 late fee + 60% of registration fee if over 1 year late
- Texas: $25 late fee for first month, increases after
- Florida: $25–$250 depending on how late
